Located at the very heart of Rome, just a stone’s throw from the Trevi Fountain and the Spanish Steps, the former palace of Banca Popolare di Novara consists of three separate buildings dating back to the end of the 19th century: Palazzina di via del Tritone, Casamento Ruspoli and Palazzo Chauvet, which is considered to be one of the early examples of rationalism and an expression of the “iron architecture”. Due to such characteristics, the latter is subject to protection of the Capitoline Superintendence since it is a work of architectural and urban interest. Until 1918, it housed the headquarters of an eminent Roman newspaper, i.e. “Il Popolo Romano,” whose inscription still stands at the entrance of the building. Thanks to a preliminary in-depth study and skillful analysis of the administrative documentation, the original units of the building complex could be restored, thus allowing for the development of commercial units at the base of the building and different office units on the upper floors.
Therefore, the goal of the redevelopment project for the entire complex is to bring new value to the indoor and outdoor environments, by enhancing the iconic and distinctive façade and emphasizing the rational, flexible, and efficient indoor spaces, designed to ensure high quality standards, based on the criteria of sustainability and energy saving.
In essence, this project consists in the restoration and enhancement of the property through its construction rehabilitation, while maintaining its former vocation as a services and commercial building.
